APOCALYPSE NOW

A book visually expressing a scene from Apocalypse Now.

Apocalypse Now explores the insanity and moral dilemma of the Vietnam War. The story follows an officer who is sent up a river towards the camp of Colonel Kurtz– an officer who has separated from the war to control a violent tribe.

I looked at a concluding scene of the film where Kurtz is trying to justify his mentally ill actions. The book unravels into a long line, reflecting Kurtz's thought process. Once the book is fully unfolded it also acts as a metaphor for the journey taken up the river.

The use of screen wash was used to create unpredictable letterforms and add to the slow pace of the scene.

- Screen wash
