APOCALYPSE NOW

A book visually expressing a scene from Apocalypse Now.

Apocalypse Now explores the insanity and moral dilemma of the Vietnam War. The story follows an officer who is sent up a river towards the camp of Colonel Kurtz– an officer who has separated from the war to control a violent tribe.

I looked at a concluding scene of the film where Kurtz is trying to justify his mentally ill actions. The book unravels into a long line, reflecting Kurtz's thought process. Once the book is fully unfolded it also acts as a metaphor for the journey taken up the river.

The use of screen wash was used to create unpredictable letterforms and add to the slow pace of the scene.

WAITING ILLUSTRATIONS

A collection of observational drawings of people waiting, whilst I was also sat waiting.

The set reflects the inevitable nature of becoming impatient whilst waiting. Through the set, the mark making techniques to draw these people becomes gradually more loose reflecting the speed in which I needed to draw the people as well as reflecting both mine and the subjects impatience.

CLOUDS

A short film produced showing the transformation of the sky from sunrise to sunset on September 6th 2009.
A photo was taken every five minutes to show the transition.

I find it amazing how much the sky can transform within one day without even noticing it, which is quite surprising since it's almost impossible to avoid.

Soon to become a print based piece of work too.

RESOLVE

An eco-friendly magazine designed to promote a sustainable lifestyle.

I designed a magazine based on the concept of making the most out of limitations. The magazine is printed in two colours to create a dynamic design to emphasise limiting consumables doesn't necessarily mean a basic lifestyle.

BARCELONA

A diary showing my interpretation of the city.

During my visit to Barcelona I was really frustrated with not being able
to communicate to other people and so not knowing where I was going.
I found it fascinating how I could decipher words due to understanding
the structure of the latin letterforms creating the Spanish words.

My diary expresses what I did, and the frustration of misunderstanding
is illustrated through large letters spread over the pages. The diary
unfolds into a poster revealing the message of confusion.

NO D&AD YELLOW PENCIL :(

Although I wasn't recognised by D&AD I did manage to get hold of a yellow pencil. Possibly a bad move on my behalf since it was more of a torment than a treat
.

CROW GRAPHIC NOVEL

Limited edition graphic novel– a collaborative project.

We based the concept around how crows are perceived in a bad
light due to them being called 'a murder of crows'. The novel is an explanation on how this misperception could have come about.
